You know, we need to figure out whose side we’re on.
Which side are we on? We’re on the side of the demons, Chief. We’re evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go.

To give you a little Lost every day during this insanely long hiatus, I’ve decided to take a page from the Frak Spoilers book and give us all a Daily Dose of Lost.
Just a little something to fill that Smoke Monster-sized void in our hearts. *sigh*
“I’m tired of trying to find happiness through lies and self-medicating.
…If you need me, I’ll be at the bar.”

I’m coming out of my mid-summer fandom hibernation to say a quick “congrats” to all my favorite shows that scored Emmy nominations this morning.
Lost was nominated for 7 Emmys, including Best Drama Series (!!!), Best Cinematography, and Best Supporting Actor for Michael Emerson, which is MUCh deserved.
The Office was nominated for 8 Emmys, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actor (Steve Carell), Best Supporting Actor (Rainn Wilson), and a slew of writing and directing Emmys.
And *gasp* BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was nominated for 5 Emmys, including Best Writing, Best Special Effects, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing!!!
30 Rock got a crazy 17 nominations for pretty much everything ever! Including Will Arnett for Best Guest Actor!
Flight of the Conchords were nominated for 2 of their songs, Dexter is nominated for Best Drama Series, Family Guy was nominated for Blue Harvest, Extras got 6 noms, including one for Ricky Gervais, The Daily Show and Colbert got their usual nods…
Altogether not too disappointing (although a writing nomination for Lost, or an acting nom or the *unthinkable* – a Best Drama Series for BSG would have been frakking awesome) But hell, even Supernatural got a nomination.
You can see the full list of Emmy nominations HERE.
I knew I had good taste in TV.

If you’re a fan of Battlestar Galactica and you are interested in the music that goes into the show, you really MUST read Bear McCreary’s blog post, which explains how and why he wrote the music for the mid-season finale, “Revelations.”
The guy’s a genius. The lyrics that he wrote (which are sung by a choir in Samoan and Latin) gave me goosebumps. And it’s humbling to hear that people as brilliant as Mr. McCreary still worry about how the hell they’re going to top themselves.
SPOILERS for the episode are included! You have been warned!
I wish we could buy this soundtrack right NOW.

The A.V. Club has an excellent interview with James Callis (Gaius Baltar) HERE.
There’s some phrase, I think it’s in Chaucer, about how everything that’s written is didactic. As soon as you write something down, as long as it’s not a shopping list, it’s some idea about the world. It’s Michel de Montaigne writing his essays, it’s Plato writing The Republic, it’s Ron writing Battlestar. All of these things concern human beings, and somebody’s idea about them. Everything that we write is to teach ourselves in some way to behave better, to think more, or to think differently. And if the thing you’re doing doesn’t actually address any of those, then maybe you are writing a shopping list.
I really do believe James Callis is one of the most talented actors on TV right now. He’s just so lovely.

Well, I’m officially excited about JJ Abrams’ new show Fringe, how about you?
An X-Files with the mythology laid out from the get-go, Fringe promises to ride grody special effects, the chemistry of its oddball trio, and Lance Reddick’s basso profundo to the genre promised land. After watching the pilot, we can only say: More, please.
Pacey aside, you’ve got Lance Reddick (The Wire, Lost) and John Noble (The Madness-of-King-Lear-ish Denthor in LOTR). You’ve got sci-fi, horror, and creepy mythology all rolled into one nerdtastic ball of JJ Abrams goodness. I’m usually not one to get excited about pilots, but in this case, I’ll make an exception.
