The good news: Bryan Singer is set to produce and direct a Battlestar Galactica movie!
The bad news: The movie will be based on the original show and it won’t feature any of the GOOD parts Ron Moore created!
Glen Larson is also going to produce, and as he famously hated on the reimagined series, I think we can all count on lots of Star Wars ripoffs and Gold Lamé capes. Although just for laughs I’d love it if they brought back the old school robots. With all the technological advances that have been made since 1978, it would be hilarious to use dudes in shiny costumes.

And in other BSG news, Amazon has Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series on sale for $175! It’s finally out!

After a magnificent run, Battlestar Galactica’s last episode will be airing this Friday. In an attempt to give it a proper send-off (and to help me grieve *sniff*), I have written an ode to commemorate its passing into the annals of television history. It begins with some of random moments from the series, and concludes with the internet equivalent of…well, a giant hug.
I’ll remember to keep my day job.

If you’re a fan of Battlestar Galactica and you are interested in the music that goes into the show, you really MUST read Bear McCreary’s blog post, which explains how and why he wrote the music for the mid-season finale, “Revelations.”
The guy’s a genius. The lyrics that he wrote (which are sung by a choir in Samoan and Latin) gave me goosebumps. And it’s humbling to hear that people as brilliant as Mr. McCreary still worry about how the hell they’re going to top themselves.
SPOILERS for the episode are included! You have been warned!
I wish we could buy this soundtrack right NOW.

The A.V. Club has an excellent interview with James Callis (Gaius Baltar) HERE.
There’s some phrase, I think it’s in Chaucer, about how everything that’s written is didactic. As soon as you write something down, as long as it’s not a shopping list, it’s some idea about the world. It’s Michel de Montaigne writing his essays, it’s Plato writing The Republic, it’s Ron writing Battlestar. All of these things concern human beings, and somebody’s idea about them. Everything that we write is to teach ourselves in some way to behave better, to think more, or to think differently. And if the thing you’re doing doesn’t actually address any of those, then maybe you are writing a shopping list.
I really do believe James Callis is one of the most talented actors on TV right now. He’s just so lovely.

Anyone who loved the music on this week’s episode of Battlestar Galactica should definitely read Bear McCreary’s post about scoring the music and Gaeta’s song. Spoilers, obviously! This man never fails to blow my mind!
He also mentions a much later episode in the season and I have to admit, he has me intrigued!
And a quick site update: Real life has been kicking me in the ass lately; I’ve been much busier than usual with work and obligations outside the realm of the interwebs. I won’t have a recap of the Locke episode “Cabin Fever” for you, but I do plan on recapping “There’s No Place Like Home.” Whether or not I recap that episode in two installments or just one big one depends on how much free time I’ve got.
Once things calm down for me I also plan on writing more features for the site, like weekly lists, reviews, and whatever else I can dream up. So keep a look out!
