Something I’m sure lots of people want to see from last night’s Lost:
Without spoiling anything for people who haven’t seen the episode, it’s that something from the first 5 minutes that you definitely wanted to see again…
CLICK TO SEE A SCREENSHOT OF THE THING.
Theories are already abounding. I love this damn show.
Is that a mullet?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Anubis_standing.svg I think it’s this guy. As soon as i saw that flash and seeing the necklace that the guy who was shot had later.
Definitely Anubis with an ankh in each hand. :)
Haven’t watched the episode yet, but what the frak is that?
*goosebumps*
from wikipedia..
“Anubis is the Greek name for a jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in Egyptian mythology”
hmmm I guess you guys are right, given that we’ve already seen hieroglyphs and such.
During the West Coast Sayiiiiid I totally said Manscara wanted Paul back because he started out as a “hostile.”
I KNOW!!! I was like holy she-ite when I saw that.
I am LOVING this season so much more than the others. It is so much fun watching everything come together.
:O :O :O I totally just stared at that open-mouthed for a full two minutes. I haven’t seen the episode yet, and now I’m extremely excited. I can’t watch it till tonight, sadly :( This is so cool!!!
I was more floored by the sight of this: http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage-1473-326.html I think he actually showed teeth.
Why does it look like a chick in a sweater dress and leggings to me?
The flat headdress thing and lack of Doberman ears makes me think it’s not Anubis. Maybe Isis or Nephthys – both of whom have statues with their arms at their sides, while Anubis seems to always be depicted with one arm holding a staff out.

So if the ankh represents eternal life, is that statue trying to say eternal life squared?
I definitely thought the statue reminded me of Anubis as well. So looking up his information, I found this: In later times, during the Ptolemaic period, as their functions were similar, Anubis came to be identified as the Greek god Hermes, becoming Hermanubis[7] – I thought the statue of Hermanubis looked more like what we saw on the island – http://tinyurl.com/ba8w4y
Now, looking up Hermes, I find it interesting that he was: “the patron of boundaries and of the travelers who cross them” AND “Hermes is a deified trickster.[5] Hermes also served as a psychopomp, or an escort for the dead to help them find their way to the afterlife”
Which I know goes back to the theories supposedly debunked years ago about Purgatory and them all being dead and what not, but this is very interesting to me!
And yes, obviously I have way too much time on my hands :)
I hope it has, like, Richard’s face or something.
crap, crap, i missed the opening of the episode! DX for some reason, before i saw the comments, i thought he/she/it was carrying a giant key. ^^; so, it’s an ankh, y/n?
OutofTime’s comment gave me chills, because I am a nerd. BOUNDARIES!!!
Nice ass. <3
Is that statue wearing a sweater cape?
Look at this!!!

I would argue that the ears on the statue are far too small to belong to the jackal-headed Anubis. Tawaret was the Egyptian goddess who protected pregnancy and childbirth, was occasionally depicted carrying an ankh, and often had a funny circular flat headpiece – not to mention tiny little hippo ears…much smaller than those of Anubis.
