WARNING: THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE LATEST EPISODE OF LOST.
After the jump: Mini-recap, questions, theories, and predictions!
By the way, my recap for this episode will be up Friday instead of Sunday for obvious reasons! Also, I will be splitting the finale into TWO recaps because it’s so long!
Stay tuned tomorrow, I’m going to be posting a something special I’ve been working on :D
On this week’s penultimate episode of Lost, Kate, Sawyer, Jack, and Hurley were still getting over the fact that Smokey tried to blow them up in the sub (and managed to kill half their friends in the process) when who should beckon them to a meeting but Jacob himself? They could all see and talk to him now (something to do with his ashes) and Jacob proceeded to tell them the entire plot of the sixth season. So now they know one of them has to replace him, and Jack volunteered, and so Jacob did some voodoo, made Jack drink some magic water, and poof, now Jacob = Jack.
Elsewhere, Widmore’s last stand against Smokey did’t go too well! Ben, Miles, and Richard had all found their way back to Otherville where Widmore’s crew was also hiding out. Once they knew Smokey was on his way, Miles ran, Richard got whisked away by the monster, and Ben decided he’d let Smokey kill him without fighting back. However, Smokey and Ben made a little deal that if Ben kills a bunch of people for Smokey, Smokey will let him have the island. Widmore told Smokey that he was there on Jacob’s orders, and that he brought Desmond to the island to act as a fail safe in case Jacob’s plan goes horribly awry. That’s all Widmore got to say because Ben promptly shot him dead because apparently he’s still pissed about Alex dying! Woops! Finally Smokey told Ben that he’s going to destroy the whole damn island, apparently.
In the Sideways World all kinds of things were going on – Ben got beaten up by Desmond, which triggered his island memories. Desmond joined forces with Kate and Sayid in jail, then Hurley helped them all escape by bribing Ana-Lucia, who he remembered from the island! Locke went to Jack and told him that he does want the surgery after all, and Ben had dinner at Alex’s house – with her mother Danielle – and the three of them were like an insta-family. And now basically everyone ever is planning to go to this big museum/concert/gala thing, where we all know something totally crazy’s going to happen!
We are so very close to the end that asking all these questions seems kind of silly, but it’s more to help us keep in mind what we should be paying attention to!
Questions:
1. Where’s Richard? And what’s Desmond up to? Did Miles help him out of the well?
2. Hurley remembers Ana-Lucia from the island and not just Libby – do the other people also remember more from the island than just the people they loved?
3. Does Ben really want the island, or is he just out for revenge? Or is he scheming? (After all, he always has a plan, right?) I love that he’s evil again, by the way. Took him long enough!
4. When Ben cried about Alex in the Sideways World, is that because he remembered Alex from the island, or just because he was so touched?
5. Jacob told the Losties that he chose them all because they were unhappy and alone in their lives, just like he was. But what about all those other people on the plane? Were they actually happy? Did he just let them die?
6. So Desmond’s the fail safe? What does that even mean? It makes me think of the hatch fail safe key, which Desmond turned and caused the hatch implosion/sky turning purple/he time traveled/etc. I think they’re going to throw Desmond into the light. And he’s going to survive. Bring balance to the Force and all that.
Thoughts:
– I loved when Jack said “I think you’re mistaking coincidence for fate” because for those that don’t remember, that is something Mistah Eko told Locke in Season 2!
– Despite the fact that Jacob had passed the torch to Jack, I don’t think Jack’s going to be protecting this island for long. In the end I don’t think the island will need any protecting, if it’s still there at all!
– Also, immortal Jack = my worst nightmare. Trust us Sawyer, we ALL thought Jack had a God complex before!
– This concert in the Sideways World is going to be like the “We Are the World” of Lost. EVERYONE’S going to be there!
– I love that Ana-Lucia is a corrupt cop. Makes so much sense. God I hated her.
– Speaking of which, GOODBYE POOR MAN’S TINA FEY.
– I cannot wait to see how this show ends. I don’t want the Sideways World to be the super happy ending since those are not the same exact characters we’ve been watching all this time, and it would negate the previous 5 years, but I have no idea where they are going with this right now! AGH!
– I can’t believe Widmore’s dead! I always thought he was so important to this whole thing and now he’s dead…I don’t get it.
– Interesting that Jacob crossing off the names didn’t mean much after all! I think it’s nice he crossed off names once people become mothers – I guess that means Jin was the ‘Kwon” on the ceiling then, huh?
– I loved seeing not crazy Danielle!!!! I hope her and Ben are very happy together, and I hope Danielle never gets her own flash of the island because if so, Ben’s in biiiig trouble.
wow. how can it be that we are now sitting here and the next lost is the last lost. wow.
i’m too in shock to say much, but boy ack, we’ll miss your recaps about as much as the show.
we are the world- good line. ‘night everyone!! (was i really the first reply??)
Six years and it’s all coming to an end. It’s amazing. I’m sure we’ll all be very satisfied.
I liked the bit about the mothers too, though some people are complaining that it reduces women to baby-machines and that is their only importance. But sometimes I think feminist viewers go a little over the top in their angst over the way women are portrayed in the series.
As for Ben, I think he was moved by the fact that Alex thought of her as a father. Remember that scene with him in and his dad (in the flashsideways) where his dad was sad that Ben had never made anything of his life, never had a family? I think that is what makes Ben tick, even on the island. He has this desire to feel like he belongs, and Alex has always given him that, no matter what universe. Evil beyond compare or not, he has always had this desire to be loved, accepted, and important.
This is something someone said on my Livejournal that I think you guys might really like:
“What if Desmond is getting them all together so that they can all have this mega flash (everything rising converges at this point) and if they all remember the Island then when Flocke tries to destroy it, it can’t be done because of that whole philosophical concept of “I think therefore I am” so you know, they all remember the Island and so Island Time won’t get obliterated.”
O_o I LOVE THIS IDEA.
Things that will happen for sure in the finale:
Jack fixes sideways Locke
Sideways Aaron will be born
Juliette will be Sideways Jack’s ex-wife/baby momma and will go on a date with Sawyer
Smokey will win since he’s really good not Jacob who’s following his murdering not real mom’s orders and smokey was born of the good island light he will stop the Jacob induced killing once and for all.
So I was freaking out when Jacob scooped up the water and started mumbling over it, like Mother did in last week’s ep but with wine instead of water, and I told my roommate “I swear to God, if that water turns into wine idk what I’ll do!” Thank goodness that didn’t happen. God knows Lost is never subtle, but that would have been too much. >.<
I was so happy to see Ricardus, Ben, and Miles again! And badass!Ben was back! Hells yeah!
But what happened to my bb!Ricardus? He can't be dead, right?!
That Ben/Alex/Danielle happy family scene almost made me cry. It's the happy ending that Ben (crazy bastard that he is!) deserves. And how great was it when he started yelling at Desmond about "Mr. Locke." :)
I caught the Mistah Eko quote too! And re:subtlety!fail, I love when the writers throw in the episode titles. Like, yeah, we get it already! Geez!
All in all, I just can't believe it's all coming to an end. brb jearing forever. T.T
PS what was up with that creepy lady voice-over in the promo? it almost sounded like Eloise, but I couldn't quite tell…
oooh. whoever said that on the livejournal- what a fabulous thought.
i have to admit while a bit corny and trite, i love how there are snippets of some long ‘lost’ ‘losties’-danielle, ana lucia. whatever concert they are all going to next week– i’m really excited for sunday. thanks again ack!
3. Revenge. Ben’s too smart to want the island by now! (I hope!)
4. He totally remembered everything; that’s why he looked so BEN when he looked at her.
– I actually don’t think Jack’s going to be there for long because hopefully he’ll be dead — Jack = God is just too obvious, I mean we’ve been waiting for it since episode 1.
– Hee, I actually liked Ana Lucia.
– As for Widmore, I’m not surprised, he just seemed…off since he came back to the island. Like out of his element or something.
– OMG such a feminism fail on that “You’re a mother now, having a child makes you infinitely more precious as a human being!”
Seriously — where is Richard?!! Also Miles? (I thought Sayid got Desmond out of the well.)
[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Rachel Ack. Rachel Ack said: "What They Died For" #Lost discussion post & mini-recap: http://bit.ly/a6GjUP […]
1) Richard’s dead, silly. He can’t kill himself but someone else can (remember the scene w/Jack on the Black Rock?)
1a) I figure either Miles or one of the people from the Temple helped Desmond out of the well.
2) Well Sun obviously recognized Locke as Smokey a few episodes back so, yeah, I’d say you eventually remember others.
3) Ben doesn’t want the island & is scheming. Besides, 10 minutes later Locke told him he was going to use Desmond to blow up the island! Not smart, Locke–you didn’t think your cunning plan all the way through, there.
4) He was touched. His whole life has apparently been school & taking care of his father. I’m sure you noticed his surprise when Danielle said she wouldn’t use so many onions “next time”.
5) Yes, he just let them die. Because Jacob’s basically a dick. Seriously, think about it. Like he said to Richard in Ab Aeterno, he brings people to the island to test a theory about free will and they all eventually die. He knows Smokey kills them as soon as they get there, but keeps bringing more to the slaughter, anyway.
6) You got me there.
Widmore: It’s obvious that Lindelof & Cuse had a much different plan for Ben & Widmore. Remember the showdown in Widmore’s bedroom? There was obviously supposed to be a larger story arc w/those two & it was abandoned.
1. Where’s Richard? And what’s Desmond up to? Did Miles help him out of the well?
ïƒ I do not think Richard is dead, we would have seen him die. I think Sayid helped Desmond out of the well
2. Hurley remembers Ana-Lucia from the island and not just Libby – do the other people also remember more from the island than just the people they loved?
ïƒ I think Hurley remembers everything from the island, and so does desmond. It doesn’t seem any one else does though.
3. Does Ben really want the island, or is he just out for revenge? Or is he scheming? (After all, he always has a plan, right?) I love that he’s evil again, by the way. Took him long enough!
ïƒ considering FLocke’s plan to destroy the island, getting the island is not much of a prize. But if he is the Ben we know and love, he is conning FLocke. He is always on the winning side, and as soon as he sees Team Jacob/Jack winning, he will flip.
4. When Ben cried about Alex in the Sideways World, is that because he remembered Alex from the island, or just because he was so touched?
ïƒ I think both.
5. Jacob told the Losties that he chose them all because they were unhappy and alone in their lives, just like he was. But what about all those other people on the plane? Were they actually happy? Did he just let them die?
ïƒ Dunno, he just let them die I guess
6. So Desmond’s the fail safe? What does that even mean? It makes me think of the hatch fail safe key, which Desmond turned and caused the hatch implosion/sky turning purple/he time traveled/etc. I think they’re going to throw Desmond into the light. And he’s going to survive. Bring balance to the Force and all that.
ïƒ I think, just like turning the failsafe key, Desmond is what you use when all else fails. And if the light is magnetic energy, and Desmond is immune to is, and Smokey is made of it, I predict the both of them will end up in the tunnel of light. Two “men†enter, one man leaves, with a Scottish accent and his top 3 shirt buttons missing.
I was sad when Jack drank the water – what an awful job. Even though we all knew he would have to do it, I didn’t think he really would have to.
5. You know, I really wished they hadn’t misused the Nikki & Paulo episode for that, the one where they got the chance to tell the backstories of a few of the non-mains. I would have liked to have seen them get some small quiet moment of redemption or character definition before dying.
On reconsideration, yeah I think Richard’s dead. Damnit.
Seeing Ben act evil again–I’ve been waiting for that. I couldn’t imagine that he’d really changed.
Surprised that Widmore is dead. I thought he’d have some part to play but maybe bringing Desmond to the island was it. Only surprise with Zoe was that she lasted this long.
And what happened to Richard? Can Smokey kill him?
When Jack became the Protector (or whatever), I wondered about Hurley saying “I’m just glad it’s not me” or something similar. Does that mean it may ultimately end up being him?
One thing I’m waiting for in the finale (among others): Claire getting on a helicopter (where is she right now BTW?) and leaving. That was the reason Charlie sacrificed himself, to save her (and everyone else, of course), so will we finally know “what he died for”?
TODAYSGONEBY: “I liked the bit about the mothers too, though some people are complaining that it reduces women to baby-machines and that is their only importance. ”
It makes sense to cross off mothers. How long has Jacob been on the island? 2,000 years or so? The island only needs one protector–why subject an innocent kid to that fate? Jacob didn’t have a choice to be protector, so I can see why he wouldn’t want mothers to have to choose to either never see their child again or strand them on an island for a couple of millenia.
My thoughts quickly:
The concert is Eloise’s FUSION concert, with Daniel and Driveshaft. Has to be. It would make sense that Dan taught David piano, and you know, it’s a FUSION concert…fusing realities. Lost is as subtle as being hit in the head with Eko’s Jesus Stick.
Secondly, I’m thinking Ben has to do something redemptive since he’s having a good life in the Sideways. I know it’s not their reward, but it does show that he has the capacity for good…so I’m thinking he might ultimately do good. I dunno.
And dammit, I’ll be emo if Richard’s ticket was punched by a swipe from the Smoke Monster. Even Bram got a more satisfying end than that. :(
I think that when Jack does Locke’s surgery and is knocked out, something will go wrong with the surgery. At the same moment, Claire will be giving birth to Aaron and maybe, just maybe that will be the moment everyone is having their flashes together. With all that possible swirling of life, death and souls, who knows what is possible?
Maybe reincarnation? And for giggles, let’s just say that Boy in black gets to be reborn as Aaron and Locke gets his body back.
Hmmm???Anybody???
Jacob: “MY MOMMY ISSUES LET ME SHOW U THEM”
I can understand Jacob’s reason for not wanting mothers or parents to be candidates (is it just women who are mothers, or does he also include men who are fathers in this rule?) but it bothered me a little nonetheless.
Also, I don’t think I was the only one expecting Jack to be the Chosen One or whatever. They had set it up to be him from the start. Maybe they’ll end up subverting this in the finale somehow.
6) If the hatch implosion in S2 caused Desmond’s flashes to either the past or an alternate timeline, then it’s becoming more clear that if Desmond was to go directly into the light or “heart of the island” would absorb the light of the island. Momma said if the light goes out here, it goes out everywhere. Perhaps the light will live on through Desmond who would then be able to use the island’s abilities at will and perhaps time travel and sink it back in the 70’s.
Where can I get tickets to this concert? It’s going to be awesome!
-If that’s how they killed Richard, it was really unworthy. Seriously, he should have at least gotten to be with Isabella. If he is dead. I hope not.
-I don’t quite understand the feminist issue with Kate’s name being crossed off because she was a mother. Jacob probably assumed she wouldn’t take the job because she had other priorities. So what? He offered her the job if she wanted it. I thought he seemed very respectful of her.
-Heh – Jack and his God complex. Perfect line! It was so obvious he would volunteer, but him drinking that water felt all kinds of wrong. It could be that the island won’t need protecting, but also, if Jacob could be killed, so can Jack. Desmond has to figure in there somehow, too.
-Re: the concert everyone is going to … didn’t Sawyer say he *wasn’t* going, because of Charlotte? He HAS to be there, right? They can’t just leave him out. Maybe there’s some disruption at the concert and the cops come …
-I can’t remember what happened with that phone call to Jack; what was the point of saying he found his father’s body if Jack will be at the concert? I guess Claire will go with him.
-I love the theory from your LJ poster.
-I took Ben’s tears as meaning he was touched to be so accepted. He was invited back to their home, and yeah, kind of had an insta-family. Belonging is very big to Ben, in both worlds.
-Wow, pretty anti-climactic with Widmore, after all the build up. I suppose Ben deserved some revenge for Alex, but it felt like a big story part just got dropped. -Loved Ben’s “thank you” to Richard for burying Alex, though. I hope he isn’t going to be FLocke’s agent.
-Can’t believe the end is here. That announcement that they are going to show fan-farewell messages during the finale broadcast … I really hope they don’t have a ticker kind of thing on the bottom of the screen! It’ll be very annoying and distracting if they do.
-I thought this episode was really good, but my brain can’t process too much right now. These last few episodes are definitely going to take a while to completely process!
” Interesting that Jacob crossing off the names didn’t mean much after all! I think it’s nice he crossed off names once people become mothers – I guess that means Jin was the ‘Kwon†on the ceiling then, huh?”
I don’t think that’s it. Claire was going to be a mother, and Jacob brought her to the island anyway.
Here’s what I think what Jacob means when he says to Kate “Because you became a mother” Kate became a mother to Aaron out of necessity. And Aaron wound up becoming something she needed. She was unhappy when she first came to the island, and I think Aaron filled that unhappiness she had within her. Thus, Jacob crossed her off because she was a mother. Not because she had a child, but because that child made her happy, and Jacob didn’t want to rob her of her happiness by choosing her as his replacement. If he did that, she would never be able to see her son again. But again, it’s not because she had a child, but because her happiness would be taken from her. She found happiness upon leaving the island. The rest of the O6 didn’t.
(If my theory holds weight, then it very well could have been Sun as the Kwon.) I could be totally off though, and it might just be a parent thing with Jacob, like you said)
Jin was the candidate, not Sun. That was implied by Sun not traveling back in time to 1977, I believe.
*Also, as far as I know, the other candidates failed to find happiness in their lives. They either died (Like Locke) or were still miserable. One could argue Sawyer became happy when he had Juliet, but he lost her, making him re-eligible for candidacy. I might just be looking too much into things. :D
Because if I were a single parent dad mom and I had a kid and my boss said “Oh, I’ve taken you out of the running for a promotion because you went and got knocked up. Yeah, sorry I didn’t ask you. What? I was just trying to be nice.”
Subtext. This episode haz it.
“Parent” and “dad” were supposed to be crossed out. I just meant “mom”. Coincidence? Or fate?!
or we could just kidnap you
I’m thinking Ben is not evil. Dr. Linus was too good an episode to retcon away. I think he’s playing Smokey for all he’s got, and I think it’s entirely possible that Widmore isn’t actually dead – the point of bulletproof vests was raised. With all his other preparations, I’d be shocked if he weren’t wearing one when he expected to run into Smokey, and even if he weren’t I’m certain Ben has one in his little lair. I don’t think anyone actually goes to make sure he’s dead. Tina Fey, yeah, she’s dead. But I bet you anything Ben has a plan here. Richard and Miles could have easily met up in the jungle, heard Ben and !Locke discussing Desmond over the walkie, and gone and fished Desmond out of the well.
But yeah, I am so glad that he is finally back. No wonder they had to keep him on the back burner pretty much all season – at the rate he’s working, s6 would have been about five episodes long.
Again I can’t really think of any theories for this episode, I’m so depressed that it’s ending Sunday. :'(
1. I REFUSE to accept Richard’s death, we only saw him get taken away, nothing else. If Richard died than I will have to cut someone and it won’t be pretty.
2. I think they remember everything. Remember how when the car crashed with Charlie and Desmond, Charlie put his hand up which triggered Desmond’s flash.
3. I’m not sure what Ben’s after, I’m thinking it’s revenge. I’m kinda hoping he’s pretending to go with Smokey and then he’ll double cross him like the badass he is.
4. I think it was a combination of both. He remembered Alex from the orginal timeline and was happy to get a second chance. I love Ben, SFM.
Shit, I gotta get my recap up too. I still haven’t recaped Across the Sea :O but I feel like shit today and I probably will feel worse tommorow. Maybe Thursday I can do both of them.
I’m pretty sure Richard’s just dead. It looked to me like Smokey grabbed him round the neck, slammed him against the tree, and just threw him somewhere…
I actually adored this episode. To me, this was Lost back on its A-Game: full of twists, plot and mythology that was nevertheless balanced with a lot of character. Not to mention, it’s just nice to see an episode where we get to hang with the WHOLE cast. I missed all these guys! Especially Ben, Miles and Richard. WHERE YOU GUYS BEEN?
The whole epic sideways meeting at the concert is getting me all excited because I love when groups randomly but epically converge. You just know that things are about to get CRAZYYY up in here.
Loved seeing Danielle again, it was nice to see her as a non-crazy french mama. Also, Ben/Danielle sexual tension was FREAKING ME OUT but I think maybe I kind of like it. Because come on, it would be AWESOME if he got to be Alex’s new dad without having to steal her.
I’m not entirely convinced about Jack being the new Jacob. It still seems too soon for such a big revelation, you know? I feel like Hurley might have condemned himself when he said “I’m just glad it’s not me.”, because I’ve had a strong feeling all season that it WILL be Hurley. How, I’m not sure.
Evil Ben? Awhhh man, I love that dude when he gets all evil, but I am CONFLICTED because I was so stoked on his redemption. So … Okay … Where did Miles go? I’m feeling like maybe there IS some scheming going on because of the who walkie talkie exchange and Ben saying “in case I need you”, and then Miles is mysteriously absent from the closet? SOMETHING IS GOING DOWN.
Uhhhg so much. This episode pretty much convinced me that Juliet is Jack’s baby mama. Uhhh the dress Desmond got for Kate was really pretty. Sawyer will end up at the museum some how. Daniel and Charlotte are gonna hook up and it will be adorable. Desmond running over Locke continues to be hilarious. I was oddly happy to see Corrupt!Ana Lucia. I like Hurley being in on Desmond’s plans and can’t wait to see the hijinks that ensue.
OH MAN this episode was like good old fashioned Lost AWESOMENESS. I’m so pumped/sad for Sunday bawhhh!
Ack: “What if Desmond is getting them all together so that they can all have this mega flash,,, they all remember the Island and so Island Time won’t get obliterated.â€
By George I Think You’ve Got It!
desmond down the well for sure
you knew there would be a ben vs. widmore moment, and there you got it. Didn’t someone once say, “BOOM! You just got Linused!”
3. Ben was always evil! His redemption was being cut down to size and having to be humble to everyone else. but he’s been laying low the whole time plotting to get the island back.
4. Ben was so touched
– This concert in the Sideways World is going to be like the cover of Sgt. Pepper – Daniel will be playing, eloise, charlotte, libby, the whole gang will be there with a very special appearance by… Juliet as Jack’s ex/mother of David!
@Sheets
That’s an excellent explanation why Jacob crossed out Kate’s name.
I like the idea that all of the remaining Losties on the island will band together to be the Island’s Protector so that just one person doesn’t have to be lonely and all alone.
In the Sideways World, the Island is underwater. If Sideways World wins out, wouldn’t that mean that the Light in the Cave has gone out? (Or can the Light exist underwater?)
And if the Light has gone out, what does that indicate about the people who are left in the Sideways World? Are they Light-less? As in, No Souls, maybe?
Also, many main characters in Sideways World have a double on the Island ~~~ except Widmore, am I right? There’s only one of him, and that one traveled to the island from Sideways World. Or are there 2 of him, too?
Obviously there are 2 of Desmond, even though Desmond was taken by Widmore to the island. There’s Desmond thrown into the Island well, and Sideways Desmond, the wild and crazy driver. So why can’t there be 2 of Widmore ~~~ one still left in Sideways World?
Can somebody set me straight? I’m having Widmore Angst over this.
(Glad to see that Hurley was not wearing red in this episode!)
great great great great great GREAT episode. loved every bit of it. let´s hope the ending is as brilliant as this episode seemed to suggest. and, jacob (or jack? :o xD) forbid, i´m actually excited about the events in the sideways!!!
regarding richard´s death: i don´t think he´s dead. he has a contract with j crew which expires on august.
One of my favorite parts was when Widmore had asked what they were doing there. Ben replied “None of your damn business” but they Richard told them they were here for C4. Ben then puts down the gun and makes that face at Richard. It was hilarious, I want a .gif of that.
I really loved this episode. I just have no idea where they are going in the Sideways World, or how Jack is the new Jacob. Some thoughts — It was great to see Danielle all pretty’d up. Ben had me caring about him again. It figures Ana Lucia would be a dirty cop; but, oh boy, is she going to have some expaining to do. I cracked up when Desmond pulled out that dress for Kate. I would have liked to have seen him shop for that. The only thing that bugged me, because there has to be something: John Locke walking up to Dr. Shepard, because we all know how easy it is to barge into a Dr.’s office.
I can’t see why people are bothered by Jacob’s reasoning about Kate not being a candidate because she became a mother. He basically said beforehand that candidates were extremely lonely and have no real significance in their lives, nothing worth losing.
Having a child will negate those elements.
I really loved this episode. nice set-up for Sunday’s showdown, lots of action, answers, and Zoe finally dead!
“What if Desmond is getting them all together so that they can all have this mega flash (everything rising converges at this point) and if they all remember the Island then when Flocke tries to destroy it, it can’t be done because of that whole philosophical concept of “I think therefore I am†so you know, they all remember the Island and so Island Time won’t get obliterated.â€
This reminds me of the Tinkerbell scene in Peter Pan – I believe, I believe!!!!
Also, I think that Jacob meant that Kate and the mom’s weren’t alone and no longer victim’s now but were being selfless and altruistic by caring and raising another human being (and hopefully not passing on any parent issues) I think he was giving the relationships a chance to blossom and therefore vindicate the corruptive and manipulative relationship he had with his Faux mamma.
Darlton said that a goal of the series finale was to make their mom’s cry (in that good/cleansing way) and I suppose be proud of them. I don’t think that they meant it in a sexist way but more of an acknowledgement of a state of grace for the mom/child relationship.
I think Widmore died because he broke the rules.
1. He came back to the Island.
2. He killed Alex.
That’s how come I think Ben was able to kill him –and I loved the reason why. Good for Ben.
Okay…admittedly couldn’t get thru all the responses. Sorry if some of this is redundant.
Ack’s comments/questions…
1) Richard = Dead?
Desmond = “Just savin’ the world, brotha”??? Really!
Miles = I always though that Sayid already helped Desmond out of the well. Miles is just hiding, like he said.
4) Touched. Other than what Desmond shocked out of Ben (memory..or whatever that is), don’t know if he’s seen anything else
6) I think, because Desmond is so important – he’s goint to lure Flocke/Smokey into that contraption Widmore built and Jack (or someone) is gonna throw the switch and blow smokey to smithereens.
Acks thoughts….
No on Jack (eternity). May even give island over to Ben after all?
I like Sideways World. They are all happier with their new destiny.
Names crossed off…didn’t that just mean they were dead, mothers (revealed last night)…and no longer candidates?
Oh…wasn’t the voice on the finale promo Linda Hunt? Sounded like her.
Ben and Whidmore planned that whole thing. first of all, when Ben visited whidmore in England and woke him up, whidmore said “are you here to kill me?” and Ben replied “we both know I can’t do that”. whidmore just showing up in Ben’s cabin w/ them, where Ben just happened to have lead people to pick up C-4 that’s not needed…Ben tells him to hide in the closet, Ben immediately gives him up to Flocke, then lets him whisper to Flocke before shooting him IN THE CHEST WHERE A BULLETPROOF VEST would be? they are in cahoots together.
Liz said, “PS what was up with that creepy lady voice-over in the promo? it almost sounded like Eloise, but I couldn’t quite tell…”
YES PLEASE WHAT WAS THAT??? So jarring and just…o_0
Soooo what about babies not being able to be conceived on the island? Is that a mothers shouldn’t be candidates thing?
I like that theory about Kate “becoming a mother.” At the time I thought, Jack “became” a father when he was living with Kate, but then he got bolloxed up about the Island and bailed on the relationship so that Kate had to throw him out.
The other problematically stereotypical line cama when the Mother said that the light was in “all men” – I figured the writers frogot themselves and really meant “all people”, not “all males”.
Did Smocke abandon Claire? She wasn’t in the rigger with him, so is she still hanging out on Hydra Island? Or…no. He wouldn’t have killed her? Would he? Not offscreen, anyway. God, if that happened, I would be super pissed.
(Also, probably the last time I’ll say this, but WHERE IS VINCENT?)
Good episode, but I can’t believe that Sunday is truly The End. [sigh]
Soooo what about babies not being able to be conceived on the island? Is that a mothers shouldn’t be candidates thing?
I think Ben’s scheming something. I don’t know what, but Widmore was a no brainer and Ben could easily kill him and appear to be in league with SMocke. I still think that Ben will flip on Smokey, but I also think that Ben will end up in the light and be the next Smoke Monster.
I know everyone wants to know what the glowy shit is, but my big question is: “What the F is the sideverse?
Is it an alternate dimension? (super geek side of me)
Is it an emotional handy-J to keep losties happy that something nice happened to those poor miserable bastards from 815.
Is it the world that would have been if Jacob had not existed or chosen them???
Is it the world that Jack will somehow now create since he’s the Key Master.
Finally, Why haven’t we seen Mr. Ecko??????????
Also, I think Widmore lied about Desmond’s use as a failsafe. I think that Widmore knows better than to tell the truth to Smokey.
